DIY – How To Make a Reed Diffuser

Next time you’re out shopping for candles or diffusers to scent your bathroom why not try to make one of your own instead? In an afternoon you can easily  create your own natural reed diffuser from items you may already own. These are so simple to make we’re sure you’ll be creating them to give as gifts for friends and family.

If you’re trying to create a spa like atmosphere in your bathroom use calming oils in your blend like lavender and bergamot to aid relaxation. If you’re feeling tired and wound up from a busy day using oils like rosemary and lemongrass will help soothe headaches and tension. Maybe you prefer more floral scents and want your bathroom to smell like a fresh country garden? If so jasmine and rose will inject some much needed feminine notes to the room.

You will need

1 packet of bamboo skewers

Essential oils

1 cup unscented cooking oil

Fresh Herbs

Dired Flowers

Cinnamon (if you like warm scents)

A pretty container

1. Select your essential oils. I suggest buying the most expensive brand you can afford, that way your homemade diffuser will last a lot longer. Think how you would like your home to smell; we recommend jasmine or lavender if you’re stuck for ideas but the choice is yours.

2. Mix 10-12 drops of your favourite essential oil with the unscented cooking oil and pour into your container.

3. Add sprigs of herbs like rosemary and thyme. If you prefer warmer, spicy scents you could use cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon sticks. Now is the point to add in any dried flowers too.

4. Add up to 10 skewers and put in any room you wish to freshen up.

5. Ensure you rotate the sticks every few weeks to stop them drying out. You can also add more essential oils if the scent begins to fade over time.
