Colour

When choosing a colour pallet for your contemporary bathroom, you should aim for a natural and non-intrusive pallet. Think clean whites and cool greys, you can also introduce some bolder colours if you’re feeling brave but avoid anything too bright.

Baths

Freestanding baths with sleek edges and un-fussy designs will add impact to a bathroom if you have the space, however, smaller baths or showers with a modular shape are also wonderful additions to a modern scheme.

Basins

Monolithic basins or sinks with storage add real impact to a room and could work as the centrepiece of a smaller bathroom. Focus on ergonomic design or sharp geometrics; either will work in a contemporary home.

Trends

The overall design of the fittings and furniture in the room should be clean and relatively understated to achieve that modern look. If you want to add more drama or interest it is also worth thinking about introducing textured tiles or surfaces, which happens to be a huge trend at the moment. Think polished concrete, stone and ceramics to achieve that textured look.

Lighting

Spotlights are a go to solution for lighting a modern space as they disappear into the ceiling. If you install a dimmer switch you will be able to personalise the lighting in the room to suit your mood. Adding in simple candles will add a touch of warmth but remember to always have an odd number on display for the most aesthetically pleasing look.

Furniture

In terms of furniture and other feathers, keep all extra details to a minimum. If you need extra storage consider installing some floating shelves or simple boxes and baskets. The decorative items in your bathroom should not distract from the overall clean design of the space.
